If an organization can be classified as an educational agency*, for $1,000 they receive:
4 Unlimited Memberships, which give four individuals (aka Lead Members):
- Access to Studios (with Studio Certification)
- Access to Field Equipment (with Field Certification)
- Access to Post Production/Editing Equipment (with iMovie or Final Cut Pro Certification)
- Access to phone, text, and on-line voting
- Ability to reserve equipment on DOM’s online scheduler for purposes of school projects
- Educational Discount on Certification classes. (For every 4 classes purchased, 2 classes are free.)
- Eligibility for one free denveropenmedia email account
- Ability to submit unlimited content for TV and web
- Educational Programming Memberships for up to 50 students (see below)
Educational Programming Memberships include:
- Educational Discount on Certification classes. (For every 4 classes purchased, 2 classes are free.)
- Access to DOM studio and video-ingest facilities for school-related work (with certification and under the supervision of a certified unlimited DOM member).
- Access to phone, text, and on-line voting
- Ability to submit unlimited content for TV and web
The 4 individuals who hold the Unlimited Memberships serve as Lead Members in that:
- They use the DOM online scheduler to make equipment and studio reservations for everyone in their organization. All of our members reserve studio time and equipment on a first-come-first-serve basis.
- In making those reservations, they certify the equipment and studios being reserved will be used for school projects.
-
One of these individuals must be present for any use of the
studios or field equipment.
(Please note: The four people on the membership can be altered during the course of your organization's membership, but they need to have taken a DOM certification class. You simply notify us, and we'll make the necessary changes.)
* Denver Open Media considers educational agencies to be those organizations that are interested in putting the power of the media into the hands of those communities that they serve.
OTHER MEMBERSHIP OPTIONS:
Denver Open Media also offers educational agencies the option of purchasing a 4-month membership. This option works well for those who work under a semester-like system. This option costs $500, allows for 4 months of equipment access and comes with 4 free Certification classes.
ADDITIONAL MEMBERS: Additional members can access equipment under the Organizational Membership for Educational Agencies in so far as they have been certified thru a class, or have tested-out of a certification area.** These members still need to be accompanied by a lead member in order to access the equipment.
**DOM will give a limited amount of time for individuals to use the equipment under the supervision of a lead member for training purposes. After this training period is over, individuals will need to test-out in order to receive official DOM certification and gain access to DOM equipment.
CERTIFICATION CLASSES
Members must be certified to use DOM equipment. Certification is earned by taking DOM classes. Four free classes are included in an Organizational Membership.
Additional classes can be purchased at the member rate of $75/class and the educational discount applies (2 classes free for every 4 classes purchased).
TESTING OUT OF CLASSES
If you have experience in field production and/or
editing and would like to get certified without having to take a class,
you may test-out of a particular certification area for a $25 fee.
Please be sure that you know the material
well enough to pass the test, because if you fail you will not be
certified, and you will have to pay to take the certification class.
The fee for the test-out will not be deducted from class fee.
Test-outs are scheduled in groups. If you would like to test out of
Field Production or Final Cut Pro, please view our upcoming schedule and email deb [at] deproduction [dot] org to secure your spot. You may not test out of Studio Production.
IF STUDENTS WISH TO USE DOM TO MAKE PROJECTS OUTSIDE OF THEIR SCHOOLWORK, they need to upgrade their programming membership to include the production services they wish to use. As educational DOM members, they receive a 50% discount on upgrades to their memberships.
REQUIREMENTS FOR CONTENT CREATED USING DOM EQUIPMENT
This membership includes free access to equipment and resources for non-commercial productions only (i.e. programs intended to air on our public access station). In basic terms, this means that no one can be compensated for projects produced with equipment provided through the Denver Open Media membership program, and that the content produced must not have commercial messages of any kind. Complete guidelines are posted in the membership agreement and content ingest agreement. Furthermore, all sponsorship or underwriting of individual shows must be managed by Deproduction/Denver Open Media in accordance with our underwriting guidelines.
If you feel your project may not meet these requirements, please inquire with our staff (720-222-0160). We are happy to offer equipment access for paid, commercial, and/or other uses not permitted in the membership agreement through discounted equipment rental from Deproduction.
