A multimedia/technology camp for girls between the ages of 14-17. This camp will be held at Denver Open Media from August 4th-9th, 2008 from 10am-3pm each day. During the camp, girls will get the opportunity to interview women from
Denver about multimedia and technology while learning how to produce
their own videos. Through these guest presenters, the girls will be
able to network with other women in Denver and learn about a variety of
ways to interact with multimedia. We are inviting professors, artists,
graphic designers and a variety of other women to inspire these girls.
This camp will also serve to break down the gender divide in technology
by teaching girls at a young age to use cameras, lights, audio and
editing equipment. We will also provide a list of resources for the
campers of how to continue learning about multimedia. In a culmination of all this new knowledge, the girls will produce a documentary film about women and technology. This camp will be inspirational, educational and fun. The camp’s final event will be a screening party one week later, which will showcase the girls’ final documentary. This party will be broadcast live on Comcast channel 57 on Friday, August 15th.
The mission of the camp follows the mission of the Deproduction group itself: media access should be a public affair, and it should be affordable. The camp will cost $150, which covers six days of instruction, a t-shirt, DOM certification in field production, as well as a final screening party. Camp registration is limited, so sign-up now!
