Denver Metro Nonprofit Production GrantDenver Metro Nonprofit Production Grant

Each year, Deproduction selects at least one Denver Metro-based local nonprofit organization to receive a pro-bono, full-service production package.

Beginning in the summer of 2008, with support from the Community First Foundation, this grant opportunity is being expanded to as many as 6 nonprofit organizations.

Qualifying organizations will receive:

  • Denver Open Media Organizational Membership. Organizations will receive all the benefits of the Denver Open Media Org Membership, including 4 transferable unlimited use memberships to the station. This includes unlimited use of edit stations, cameras and studios. This membership also allows for 4 free certification classes. Additionally, participants will receive unlimited hosting of broadcast content for TV and the web, and guaranteed TV cablecast of every show submitted.
  • Professional 3-5 minute promotional video to be used for outreach, fundraising, special events, or training. Alternate versions will be encoded, ready for YouTube, Myspace, Facebook and the organization's own website. (Promotional video benefit includes 1 shoot day, and 3 edit days, on standard-definition video)
  • Professionally produced 1/2hour studio show highlighting the work of the participating organizations and aired in Denver on Comcast channel 57. The show will feature the promotional video (produced through the grant), as well as interviews with staff, board, and/or participants who can explain the impact the organization is having on our community. Studio show benefit includes custom graphics, intro, outro, and all related preparation and crew.
  • Participating organizations will receive further recognition through Denver Open Media's Underwriting program. DOM will create a custom underwriting spot, which will promote the granting program, and the organizations that are involved. This spot will also help to drive more audiences to view the studio shows.
  • Deproduction will provide training and support for 3-5 subsequent studio productions in order to ensure the organization gets the support it needs to establish a self-sustaining team capable of organizing the studio production needs of the organization.
  • Organizational spotlight during Denver Open Media's First Fridays Live. Every month Denver Open Media and KGNU host First Fridays Live, a live studio show with two musical performances and one nonprofit organizational spotlight. Each participating organization will receive the opportunity to be highlighted during this event. DOM's most popular show, the broadcast goes out live on Comcast Ch 57, and also on KGNU AM and FM radio, reaching thousands of potential supporters with the message of the organization.
  • Deproduction will author a custom DVD, containing the studio show, the short promo video, and the First Friday segment, as well as other significant information provided by the organization. This DVD can be replicated and distributed to funders, members, etc.
  • As part of this program, Deproduction will also produce 20 copies of the DVD with custom graphics and menus.
  • In addition to the 4 certification workshops included in the organizational membership, the participating organization will receive two additional 6-hour training sessions, ensuring that more staff, board, and volunteers will have the opportunity to be trained to use the equipment at DOM.
  • In addition to the certification workshops, organizational team members will attend a special 4-hour training on the basics of how to use video/new media on the internet to promote their nonprofit. Priced at $50/person, this workshop will be offered for free through this grant.
  • For those organizations who lack the expertise to post the video content to their website, Deproduction will provide any necessary encoding, and web-development services necessary to post the video. In addition, if the organization lacks bandwidth to stream the video, Deproduction will stream the video from our servers.

* Please note that this program requires each organization to complete approximately 25-50 hours of classroom training and 25-50 hours of production training within the first two months of receiving this grant. We require that each organization designate a minimum of 2 representatives to participate in this training at the time of application. All organizations must have 501(c)3 status. Please do not apply if you cannot meet these requirements.
