Public Access & CTC Grants

In 2008, Deproduction was the recipient of a Knight News Challenge award aimed at a long-term goal of helping Public Access TV stations and Community Technology Centers better cooperate as a nation-wide user-driven network. At the core of this grant is the collection and implementation of a set of open-source tools developed by DOM and others aimed at expanding the role of the community and streamlining much of the workload of a Public Access station or CTC.

Throughout 2008, Deproduction will continue updating and developing the various Drupal modules used in the User-Automated operation of Denver Open Media, while integrating them with other Drupal modules developed by our partners across the Public Access community.
By early 2009, Deproduction will make these tools available via Drupal.org for Public Access stations and CTCs to implement. For those organizations requiring support, Deproduction will select a group of beta-test sites to receive comprehensive consulting, implementation, and training services. Organizations interested in applying to be one of the initial test-sites can complete our application form beginning July 9, 2008.

Throughout 2009, our team will continue development and integration of these tools as they are tested in various environments, working with other development efforts to have a complete Drupal Public Access/CTC install profile ready for widespread use by the end of 2009. By mid 2010, we will have contributed to the development of a Public Access file exchange system that will enable all participating organizations to leverage the thousands of hours of content produced every day across the Public Access/CTC community.

Applications to receive full-service implementation, training, and development services from Deproduction will open from July 9, through Nov 9, 2008. Some early applicants and our feedback can be seen at the Open Media Drupal Group.
