Teaching at DeproductionTeaching at Deproduction

MissionMission

Deproduction: The [denverevolution] Production Group exists to put the power of the media into the hands of the community by providing production services and media education to individuals and community-focused organizations.

PhilosophyPhilosophy

In order to have some power in their hands, many people need to learn new skills. Though electronic media production and distribution are more accessible than ever, they still require a certain skill set. If people don’t know how to use the tools, they won’t be able to use the power of the media for themselves and their communities. Teaching at Deproduction is designed around on that old saying, “Give a man a fish and he’ll eat for a day; teach him how to fish and he’ll eat for life.” Teachers should do everything they can to empower students, facilitate their learning, and connect them with the tools they need.

CompensationCompensation

Denver Open Media is always looking for experienced professionals to assist in teaching our certification workshops. The volunteers who assist in these classes enable us to keep the costs as low as possible and ensure that the station is accessible to as many people as possible. To show our appreciation for the work these special volunteers provide, we have devised the following rewards program for our volunteer instructors.
  1. 1st class taught — Lifetime certification in that area
  2. 2nd class taught — Programming membership
  3. 3rd class taught — DOM teacher certification
  4. 4th class taught — Editor, Field or Studio Membership
  5. 5th class taught — Denver Open Media t-shirt or a similar gift
  6. 6th class taught — Unlimited Membership

* Every class taught after the 6th class results in a $75 credit for either the teacher to use or give to someone else.

DOM depends on our volunteers to make the station a success, and we want to compensate them accordingly. Denver Open Media provides a great community of educators, media makers, forward-thinkers and all around good-time people; we would love for you to join our team.

* If a year has elapsed and your membership expires:
  1. a teacher must teach 1 class in order to renew a programming membership
  2. a teacher must teach 2 classes in order to renew an editor membership
  3. a teacher must teach 3 classes in order to renew an unlimited membership

If you would like to volunteer to help teach one of our classes, please send your experience in the area of field production, studio production, or Final Cut Pro editing to certification [at] deproduction [dot] org. And if you are sitting there, wondering "Am I qualified enough?" send us your resume right now because you probably are. Thanks!
